"Bird photography can be challenging," McDonnell says. "Bella, the sulphur-crested cockatoo, was a live wire, dancing and moving, making it difficult to keep her in focus and in the frame. Tawny Frogmouths are usually pretty easy to photograph but this was the first time I saw one that was hyper-aware of his surroundings. He was feeling territorial and had puffed himself up to look bigger and threatening."
